Alexandria / Nr. Alex Hospital Office

  • Claude Bernard, OTR/L

    Claude Bernard graduated from Howard University with a Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy in 2013. Prior to earning his masters, he received an Athletic Training degree at Methodist University in 2011. He has gained valuable clinical experience in a variety of settings which include inpatient rehab, acute care, SNIF, mental health hospital, and sports injuries. Upon completion of OT school, he worked alongside his mentor/doctor’s hand therapy clinic where he developed skills in hand therapy, lymphedema therapy, and pediatric therapy. Working at the hand therapy clinic he has developed the skill to combine comprehensive knowledge of the structure of the upper limb with function and activity using specialized skills in assessment, planning and treatment. His passion has always been with the intricate knowledge and specialization of hand therapy. In his free time, Claude enjoys playing basketball, fitness, traveling, and spending time with family.

  • Thomas Cox, OT

    Tom Cox graduated with a Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy from Spalding University in 2015. Prior to earning his masters, Tom received a B.S. in Kinesiology from Liberty University. Before beginning his career as an Occupational Therapist Tom worked from the Warrior Transition BN at Fort Knox, Ky; where he developed/ran the adaptive sports program for wounded warriors. Tom has completed multiple residencies in hand therapy clinics with some of the top therapist in the nation. Tom's passion has always been evaluating, treating, and assisting patients in restoring function for a wide range of hand injuries.

  • Dakota Ferrell, OT

    Dakota Ferrell received her Masters degree in Occupational Therapy from Howard University in Washington, DC. She was born and raised in the Northern Virginia area. Her clinical experiences include skilled nursing, mental health, and pediatric occupational therapy services. She joined Alliance in 2016 and is excited to expand her experience to include outpatient services as well. In her free time, she enjoys to cook, spend time with family and friends, and read.

  • Taeyong Kim,PT

    Taeyong Kim received his Bachelors degree in physical therapy from Sahmyook University, Seoul South Korea in 2013. After graduating in 2013 he worked in an orthopedic hospital in Seoul, South Korea where he was able strengthen his skills in an acute environment. Thereafter, he received his doctorate degree from Loma Linda University, California in 2015. He has completed kinesiotaping courses as well as other manual therapy courses in South Korea from the National Athletes Training Center and Bobath basic course in South Korea from Bobath hospital. He is currently enrolled in a dry‐needling course that will allow him to practice dry needling treatments. He joined Alliance in 2016 upon graduation and is extremely excited about the opportunity to apply his skills in the outpatient field. In his free time Taeyong enjoys playing soccer, exercising and working out, as well as going out to watch movies.

  • Xylene A. Lundgren, LPTA

    Xylene earned her Physical Therapy degree in 2003 at the University of Perpetual Help - Dr. Jose G. Tamayo Medical University in the Philippines. She joined Alliance at the Alexandria office as a Physical Therapist trainee in the year 2011. She is currently working as a Physical Therapist Assistant pending her Physical Therapy license. She enjoys working with neurology and orthopedic conditions. Patients appreciate her good humor and friendliness while she focuses on their rehabilitation. Her connection with the patients motivates them to work harder on their recovery. She enjoys cooking, going on nature trips, listening to music, and watching romantic comedy movies.

  • Rimjhim Sharan, PT, MS

    Rimjhim earned her degree in Physical Therapy from Manipal University, India. After graduating in 2007, she worked at Fortis Hospital in Mumbai and her clinical experience included in-patient and out-patient orthopedic, cardio-pulmonary, and neuro rehabilitation. Thereafter, Rimjhim pursued her Masters in Clinical Exercise Physiology at The George Washington University. During graduate school, she completed her internships in cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation at Inova Health System hospitals. Rimjhim joined Alliance in 2011 upon graduation. Rimjhim is dedicated to providing quality care through individualized approach. She helps patients succeed by providing functional strengthening and therapeutic exercises combined with manual therapy. She incorporates Kinesiotaping, Muscle Energy techniques, myofascial release, PNF techniques while treating her diverse patient population including patients with sports injuries, post operative conditions, bio-mechanical and movement dysfunctions, balance and vestibular disorders. When not working, Rimjhim loves spending time with her husband, her friends and loves swimming, dancing, and watching movies.

  • Yvonne Claire Umayam, PTA

    Yvonne Claire Umayam graduated from Northern Virginia Community College with an A.A.S degree in Physical Therapist Assistant. To further her career, she pursued her undergraduate degree at George Mason University, where she earned her B.S in Health, Fitness, and Recreation Resources, Kinesiology Concentration. She has had prior hands on in a variety of clinical settings including fitness centers, outpatient orthopedic, SNF, and, Total Joint Replacement hospital and in-patient rehab which have added to her knowledge base in treating various conditions and diagnoses. Yvonne is dedicated in providing quality of care that utilizes evidence-based manual techniques and modalities to restore optimum mobility and functional independence of her patients. Yvonne loves spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys dancing, fitness, hiking, camping, and wants to travel the world.

  • Melissa Weaver, PT

    Melissa Weaver graduated with a Bachelors degree in Physical Therapy from Quezon City, Philippines. Her internship experience during her time at the university focused on various degrees of stroke rehab and orthopedic conditions among other diagnoses. She joined Alliance Physical Therapy in the fall of 2012 as a Physical Therapy Tech which involved guiding patients through their therapeutic exercises. She has since gone on to receive her Virginia Physical Therapist license. Melissa teaches patients strategies to help themselves recover and manage their conditions independently. She hones her skills by continuously seeking out techniques and information from notable clinicians in the field of physical rehab and sports.



Alexandria / Mt. Vernon Office

  • Shasta Irick, PTA

    A native of Mississippi, Shasta attended Mississippi State University, earning her Bachelors in Fitness Management. As a military spouse & mother of two, she is afforded the opportunity to live in various cities and constantly meet new people. Upon her family's 1st tour to northern VA, Shasta attended Northern Virginia Community College, receiving her Associates degree Physical Therapist Assistant. Upon her family's 2nd tour to northern VA, Shasta joined the Alliance staff. In her spare time, Shasta enjoys reading, traveling, dancing, going to movies & sporting events, and hanging out with family (especially her children) & friends.

  • Benjamin Pettit, LPTA

    Ben graduated in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College with an Associate's Degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant. Ben enjoys finding new and creating functional therapeutic exercises to help all his patients of all skills, sports and life. He continues working on improving all his manual therapy skills though continuing education courses, to better treat and progress his patients. For the last 4 years Ben has been in the top 50 and above fundraiser for The Bike MS society and this year 2012 bike his first 100 mile bike ride. In his free time Ben and his wife enjoy biking, hiking, fly fishing, camping, traveling, and playing in bands, photography and playing with their lovely dog.

  • Eric Umayam, PT

    Dr. Federico "Eric" A. Umayam II garnered his bachelor in physical therapy from Southeast Asian College, Philippines, 2002. He then served in the United States Navy from 2003-2011 where he further improved his professionalism, exceptional work ethic, leadership, and personal development. He obtained his doctorate degree in physical therapy from Utica College, New York in 2017. Dr. Eric has a profound interest in soft tissue manipulations and joint mobilizations, and has taken courses specializing in shoulder, elbow, wrist, knee, neck and back disorders. He has treated a variety of patients, including but not limited to musculoskeletal problems, post-surgical conditions (i.e. knee and hip replacements, cervical and lumbar fusions, shoulder, knee, and foot repair), and vertigo patients. In addition, he is also the Clinic Director of our Mount Vernon Clinic to ensure delivery of outstanding quality of care to our patients.



Colonial Heights / Richmond Area Office

  • Holly Jacobsen, LPTA

    Holly graduated in 2007 with a bachelor degree in Clinical Exercise Science from Virginia Commonwealth University. After a few years’ experience as a physical therapy tech, she went on to earn her physical therapist assistant degree in 2013 at Jefferson College of Health Sciences in Roanoke, Virginia. Her clinical experience includes outpatient orthopedics/aquatic therapy, skilled nursing care, and work-site based health and wellness. Holly obtained her certification in Kinesio taping. An avid sports enthusiast, Holly enjoys playing on her coed softball team, participating in group fitness classes, and rooting for the VCU Rams. She is currently treating patients in our Colonial Heights and Midlothian clinics.

  • Nathan S. Michels, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS

    Nate works for Alliance Physical Therapy in our Richmond locations. He is the clinic director of the Midlothian office and spends time in both Colonial Heights and Willow Lawn. He is a 2010 graduate of James Madison University with a Bachelors Degree in Health Sciences with a Health Studies concentration. Nate earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from Old Dominion University in 2013 where he was inducted into the Alpha Eta National Honor Society for Allied Health by his faculty. After graduation Nate became a traveling physical therapist specializing in orthopaedics and gaining experience working in 7 different states across the country. In early 2015 he was recognized as a board certified specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy. His clinical interests include work hardening, car accident injuries, functional movement screening, enhancing optimal sports performance, and comprehensive rehabilitation approaches breaking down integrated biomechanics. Nate prides himself in going above and beyond for each patient and individualizing their program. By individualizing the programs and staying away from cookie cutter approaches it promotes long term success by teaching the tools to maintain rehab progress once discharged. His overall goal is to get each patient back to doing what they love, whether that is picking up their grandchildren, driving to the grocery store, walking on the beach during the next family vacation, hiking the Shenandoah trails, returning to playing a round of golf, or maximizing an athlete’s performances to the next level.

  • Robert Urrutia, PTA

    Robert Urrutia graduated from The New England Institute of Technology with a Physical Therapist Assistant degree in 2012. He is licensed in the states of New York and Commonwealth of Virginia. Robert moved from New York to Virginia in 2015 and has experience ranging from working with young athletes in outpatient settings to the geriatric population in various five star rehabilitation centers. He also is certified in therapeutic taping along with having experience with aquatic therapy. Robert has been a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor since 2008 and a competitor since 2003 with multiple titles to his name. He is now aspiring to pursue his DPT license in the future.



Fairfax Office

  • Diedre Falls, OTR/L

    A graduate of Thomas Jefferson Medical College in 1987, Diedre went on to receiving her Hand Therapy Certification (CHT) in 1991. Her vast experience has been in both the inpatient and out patient settings throughout the Northern Virginia area. Her most recent experience includes working directly with 2 local Hand surgeons. Her passion lies in patient care. Diedre enjoys treating all upper extremity conditions as well as post operative cases. She has managed many complex hand injuries. Diedre’s is also a yoga instructor, which allows her to create the ideal rehabilitative environment. She is currently treating patients in our Fairfax Office.

  • Stephanie Learish, PTA

    Stephanie, from Harrisburg, PA graduated in 2012 with a BFA degree in dance from Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA. She went on to dance professionally with the Montgomery Ballet in Alabama for a year before returning to obtain her Physical Therapist Assistant degree from Central Penn College. Her clinical experience includes outpatient orthopedics, aquatics, and inpatient rehab with a variety of patients from children to geriatrics. Stephanie loves spending time with her family and friends as well as teaching dance, traveling, and staying active.

  • Daniel Miles, DPT

    Dan is a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Buffalo. Dan is furthuring his education in the field of Physical Therapy by taking classes to receive a certification in orthopedic manual therapy. He has played competitive Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball and Track and Field and has a special interest in sports injuries. Dan has an interest in teaching as well and has had several PT trainees and PTA trainees. Dan is also the Clinical Director for the Fairfax office.

  • Joyce Myers, LPTA

    Physical Therapy is Joyce's second career that started in 1996, when she graduated from Northern Virginia Community College as a Physical Therapist Assistant. Over the years, her degree has taken her to working in Home Health Care settings, Skilled Nursing Facilities, Long term and Intensive Care Physical Therapy in hospitals, Fairfax County Schools where she treated children with disabilities, and Sheltered Workshops where she worked with adults with multiple challenges. She has been with us since 2004 and enjoys Aquatic Therapy in addition to outpatient therapy. “Physical Therapy is one of the most rewarding careers for me and every environment has touched my heart. During her leisure time, Joyce enjoys gourmet cooking, crocheting, painting in her art studio and taking Ballroom dancing. “Life is good!

  • Ben Ramos, LPTA

    Ben graduated from Northern Virginia Community College's Physical Therapist Assistant program in 2015. He specializes in outpatient rehab for sports injuries, work accidents, orthopedics pre-and-post-op, and spinal/nerve pathologies in adults and children. His individualized treatment approach emphasizes functional exercise, manual therapy, and postural or gait training as indicated. Ben believes Physical Therapy can be a fun experience and loves giving his patients the tools and knowledge necessary to reach independence and return to the activities they enjoy. A Northern Virginia native, Ben's eclectic range of interests includes reading, writing, drawing, dancing, martial arts, board games, and cinema.



Manassas Office

  • Kayla Rugg, LPTA

    Kayla grew up in a little town called Garrett, Pennsylvania. She graduated in 2016 from Allegany College of Maryland's Physical Therapist Assistant program. Kayla plans on taking CEU courses that focus on pediatrics, manual therapy, and sports related injuries. In her spare time she enjoys reading, rock climbing, kayaking, and experiencing the different exotic foods that Northern Virginia has to offer.

  • Mira Wahba, PT

    Mira earned her degree from M.I.S.R University, and immediately after graduation, she specialized in outpatient orthopedic physical therapy. Mira took additional courses in physical therapy at St. Augustine University to further her knowledge. Mira is committed to provide quality services to her patients in order to help them regain their mobility and strength. Mira has a special interest in mobilizations and is furthering her education in Manual Therapy by taking classes to become a certified integrated manual therapist. In her free time, Mira enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, going to the movies and working out.

  • Najwa Wallschlaeger, OTR/L, Certified Hand Therapist

    Najwa is a certified hand therapist and a licensed and registered occupational therapist at Alliance Physical Therapy's Manassas location. Najwa completed her undergraduate studies at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa in 1994. She went on to receive her Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy in 1996 from the University of Indianapolis in Indiana. She began her career in Lynchburg, VA working in inpatient acute hospital and rehabilitation settings. During that time she discovered her passion for hand therapy and transitioned into an outpatient practice. Najwa pursued her interest in hand specialty through a mentorship at the Indiana Hand Center and in 2002 established a hand clinic in Lynchburg. Najwa earned her Certification in Hand Therapy in 2006. She brings 20 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist and is a member of the American Society of Hand Therapists. She is current with hand therapy practice trends and has become known for quality care and professionalism. Najwa lives in our area with her husband and two children, and enjoys hiking, running, cooking and piano.

  • Kirsten Yarwood, DPT

    Kirsten grew up in the Northern VA area and always hoped to come back following school. She graduated from Elon University in 2010 with a degree in Exercise Sport Science and went on to graduate school at Shenandoah University, where she graduated with her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2013. Kirsten hopes to further her education by taking a wide range of continuing education classes that focus on manual therapy, neurological rehab, and return to sport.



Springfield Office

  • Kyle Rasmus, LPTA

    Kyle is a 2000 graduate from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay WI. He has over 15 years of experience in outpatient physical therapy specializing in orthopedic care of the spine and upper and lower extremities. Kyle has been fortunate to work and learn from many physical therapists and orthopedic surgeons throughout his career. He has a passion for food, beverage and cooking. He has also worked as an outdoor guide in Colorado and maintains an active interest in outdoor activities. He enjoys hiking, bicycling, motorcycling, being a father, and time with friends and family.

  • Tasneem A. Shaikh, DPT

    Tasneem is the clinic director of the Springfield Clinic. She attended the University of Virginia for her undergraduate studies, completed her Masters in Science and Physical Therapist degree from the Medical College of Virginia, and has been practicing in the state of Virginia since 2000. She completed her Doctorate in Physical Therapy two years ago from AT Still University of Health Sciences in Arizona. Tasneem initially worked in acute care, where she treated patients immediately after orthopedic, neurological and cardiac surgeries, however her passion is treating patients with orthopedic deficits. She has a strong background in manual therapy and has completed multiple continuing education courses from a nationally renowned institute, specializing in manual therapy and exercise techniques, focused on increasing range of motion, strength, stabilization, and postural control of the core, spine, and extremities. Tasneem has also been trained in treating infants with torticollis and children with mild motor deficits. She incorporates strengthening and stabilization with manual therapy to achieve a more functional and healthy lifestyle and promote overall health and wellness for our patients. Tasneem is fluent in English, Hindi, Urdu, and French, and she is currently studying Spanish.

  • Jin Stoothoff, PTA

    Jin Stoothoff, PTA graduated in 1998 with a bachelors in Physical Education and a Masters in Sports Diplomacy in 2001 in Korea. She then went to Japan to study Japanese and taught college level badminton. In 2004, she came to the United States. Jin decided to further her education and started the PTA program at NOVA community college in 2009. She graduated in 2011 as a PTA. She enjoys a fast-paced outpatient environment. She specializes in the low back, shoulder, and knee. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her 4 year old son. Jin is fluent in Korean and Japanese. Jin is currently working in our Springfield clinic.

  • Mary L. Woodbury, OTR/L, Certified Hand Therapist

    Mary has nearly 18 years of experience working as an Occupational / Hand Therapist. She is a 1989 graduate of University of New England. She received her Hand Therapy Certification in 2008. She is used to working in multi-disciplinary treatment team with extensive experience in the evaluation, treatment, and modalities to treat upper extremity orthopedic conditions. She easily establishes rapport with patients and staff members. Independently plans, develops, and implements comprehensive and complex treatment programs for individual patients. She is also responsible for the development and adherence to Occupational Therapy protocols.



Stafford Office

  • Jacquelyn Rosoff, PT, DPT

    Jacquelyn graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2009 from George Mason University. She continued her education at Old Dominion University where she obtained her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2012. As a student, she experienced many settings to include inpatient rehabilitation, acute inpatient, outpatient neurological rehabilitation and, her passion, outpatient orthopedics. She began her career with Alliance, working in our Woodbridge office after graduation. In 2016, she transitioned to our Stafford office as Clinical Director. Jacquelyn has completed continuing education to facilitate her manual treatment skills with particular focus on the shoulder, neck and back. She is proficient in Functional Capacity Evaluations and work hardening/conditioning programs to assist the injured worker's safe return to the job. Outside of work, Jacquelyn enjoys spending time her her husband and son, hiking, scuba diving, beach vacations and video games.

  • Yuka Hara, PT, DPT

    Yuka Hara is a Doctor of Physical Therapy in the Stafford, VA clinic. Yuka received her B.S. in Athletic Training from Oklahoma State University in 2009, and Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from Hampton University in 2012. Yuka has practiced in an outpatient clinic and a skilled nursing facility after completion of her education. Yuka’s professional interests focus on manual therapy, orthopedics, gait analysis, postural education and functional therapeutic exercises. Outside of Physical Therapy practice, Yuka enjoys doing CrossFit, playing basketball, skiing, rock-climbing and yoga in her free time.



Tysons Corner / Vienna Office

  • Omer Amin, LPTA

    Omer graduated from George Mason University in 2012 with a degree in Exercise Science. He enjoys focusing on strength and conditioning concepts and cardiac rehab. While being a certified personal trainer and working in outpatient sports rehab, he went back to school to become a licensed PTA and provide more hand-on patient care. He's passionate about getting all patients to their goals whether it's to simply have less pain or to get back to their sport full-speed. On his personal time Omer likes to be outdoors and active as much as he can. He enjoys camping, and hiking and has recently gotten into obstacle course races completing the Spartan Race Trifecta in 2016.

  • Pamela Phan, LPTA

    Pam graduated in 2009 with a B.A. degree from George Mason University. She went on to receive an A.A.S. degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant from NVCC’s Medical Education Campus. Her clinical education experience includes outpatient orthopedics, extended care and rehab facilities with a variety of patients from young adults to the geriatric population. Pam believes in using an individualized approach to help patients achieve their personal goals and meet their unique needs. Pam is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and specializes in the treatment of orthopedic and sports related injuries. Pam is fluent in Vietnamese and is currently treating patients in our Tysons Corner office.

  • Taylor Riviere, DPT, OTR/L

    Dr. Riviere received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at The University of Saint Augustine for Health Sciences in 2015, and is Direct Access Certified. She also received her Masters in Occupational Therapy from The University of Saint Augustine for Health Sciences in 2013. She received her B.A. degree in Exercise Science at the University of Saint Augustine in 2011. Following graduation from The University of Saint Augustine for Health Sciences, Dr. Riviere moved to Virginia to pursue her dream of working as a therapist and discover life outside of Florida. In her free time she enjoys playing flag football, working out, staying active, and reading.



Washington DC Office

  • Bianca Bass, DPT

    Bianca Bass, DPT graduated from InstitutoBrasileiro de Medicina e Reabiliatacao in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. She then received her Doctoral degree from Marymount University, Virginia. Bianca has been practicing Physical Therapy for the past 14 years. Since graduating, she has focused her practice in outpatient orthopedics and neurological rehabilitation. Over the years, she has enjoyed working with a variety of patients from young adults to geriatrics population. She is currently treating patients at our DC Clinic. For Bianca, the beauty of physical therapy is to help people resume their lifestyle and be independent in their daily activities.

  • Autumn Merritt, PT, DPT

    Autumn earned her Bachelor' s of science degree in Kinesiology at Georgia Southern University in 2004 and her Doctoral degree in physical therapy at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, FL ( Fort Lauderadale, FL) in 2011. Since graduation Autumn has worked as a licensed physical therapist in Silver Spring, Maryland with focus in Geriatric care for Genesis healthcare ( 2011-Present) and continues PRN. In recent years she changed her focus to Orthopedic Oupatient physical therapy where she worked in Greenbelt, MD treating patients from all backgrounds and ages including pediatrics to elder Adults.
    Autumn takes pride in showing compassion and empathy for her patients. She strives to promote great care increasing patients' quality of life and adequate return to prior level of function.

  • Sally Miller, LPTA

    Sally graduated from Salisbury University in 2008 with a B.S. in Exercise Science and most recently earned her Physical Therapy Assistant A.A.S. degree from Northern Virginia Community College. Sally’s interest in orthopedic and sport-specific rehabilitation has been a driving force throughout her physical therapy education and experience. Sally's approach to treatment focuses on hands-on techniques specifically tailored to each patient's condition and unique goals. An avid music lover and sports enthusiast, Sally enjoys going to concerts, rooting for the Orioles, running half-marathons, and chasing around her adorable nieces and nephews.

  • Andrew I. Thompson, PTA

    Andrew is a native of northern Virginia who graduated from Northern Virginia Community College’s Physical Therapist Assistant program in 2015. Andrew’s clinical experience includes both outpatient orthopedic and skilled nursing. His professional interests include Muscle Energy Techniques in the treatment of musculoskeletal dysfunction. Outside the clinic, Andrew’s loves to practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and play with his dog. Andrew also holds a BA degree in Biology from the University of Hawaii.

  • Dr. Lisa Yee, DPT

    Lisa earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Columbia University in New York, NY in 2015 where she participated in the Advanced Orthopedic Track. Prior to graduate school, Lisa graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2011. Her interest in health, fitness and the human body developed during her time as a competitive figure skater for over 15 years. As a physical therapist, Lisa is able to utilize her prior figure skating background to assess biomechanics and movement as they pertain to her patients. Lisa has clinical experience in treating adults, pediatrics and geriatrics in a variety of settings such as orthopedics, sports rehabilitation, and acute care. Lisa believes in the power of combining manual therapy with therapeutic exercise to achieve optimal and lasting outcomes. She is also committed to keeping up with timely literature and furthering her learning. Outside of physical therapy practice, she enjoys running, hiking, working out and spending time outdoors.

  • Derek R. Austin, PT, DPT, MS, BCTMB, CSCS

    Derek is a physical therapist who joined the Alliance team at the Richmond clinic in 2016. Derek earned his Bachelor and Master degrees in Bioinformatics from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2008, and he completed his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at VCU in 2014. In addition to being a physical therapist, Derek is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist and a licensed massage therapist who holds board certification in therapeutic massage and bodywork. Since 2010, Derek has enjoyed volunteering with the Massage Therapy Foundation. He is currently chair of the MTF's Writing Workgroup and a regular contributor to the MTF Research Column, published monthly at MassageToday.com. With several years of massage and physical therapy experience, Derek has worked with a wide range of clientele. He has previously worked in outpatient and home health physical therapy settings. He also served as the team massage therapist for the VCU Rams Men’s Basketball team from 2013-2015 including traveling with the team during the Rams' Atlantic 10 championship victory in 2015. Derek’s interests include strength training, ergonomics, and posture.

  • Matt Burress, PT, DPT

    Dr. Burress received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Elon University in 2014, and is Direct Access Certified. He received his Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine from Radford University in 2009. Following graduation from Radford University, Dr. Burress received credentialing through the American College of Sports Medicine as a certified personal trainer. During his two year stint as a personal trainer, Dr. Burress specialized in sports performance, weight loss and weight management, and overall wellness. He enjoys working with all patient populations to help motivate them to reach their goals, maximize their full potential, and improve their quality of life. In his free time he enjoys watching sports and staying active, competing in annual half marathons and duathlons.

  • Rebecca Burroughs, PTA, LMT

    Rebecca obtained her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from Fairmont State University. She went on to obtain her Massage Therapy license in West Virginia followed by her Physical Therapist Assistant license from ECPI in Richmond. She has across country twice and enjoyed seeing the sites that America has to offer. She aspires to build the career of her dreams and enjoy a wonderful life with her family and loved ones.

  • Nicole Lobo, PTA

    Nicole Lobo is a 2015 graduate of Northern Virginia Community College’s Physical Therapist Assistant Program. Nicole has a variety of interests in physical therapy which range from working with athletes to the older population. Her clinical experiences include outpatient, pediatrics, and inpatient rehab. She is fluent in Spanish enjoys working with a diverse patient population. She is originally from a small town in upstate New York and moved to Northern Virginia in 2007. In her free time Nicole enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and friends as well as biking, hiking, tennis, soccer, reading, traveling, and cooking.

  • CJ Pilong, DPT

    CJ received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Lynchburg College in 2016, and enjoys treating a wide variety of patient populations. As part of his schooling, he did his final clinical internship with the San Francisco Giants baseball organization and likes the challenge of working with elite athletes. He also has a Bachelor’s Degree from Virginia Tech, graduating in 2013 after majoring in Human Nutrition, Foods & Exercise. He continues to support his alma mater and takes every chance he can to visit and attend football games in Blacksburg, Virginia. CJ grew up in Dover, Delaware but moved to Virginia before starting high school, and has lived all over the state since. He enjoys playing and watching sports of all kinds, as well as other outdoor activities, whether its for a hike up a mountain or a walk along the canal.



Woodbridge Office

  • Tracey Boros, LPTA

    Tracey has a Physical Therapist Assistant degree from Northern Virginia Community College, in which, she is licensed by the Board of Physical Therapy in the Commonwealth of Virginia. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training and Fitness Development from George Mason University. She has an Orthopedic Certification in Aquatics from the Aquatic Therapy and Rehabilitation Institute (ATRI). She has been an Aquatic Exercise Instructor since 1991 and a Certified Personal Trainer since 2001. She also holds certifications in several group fitness areas, including: Spinning, Turbo Kick, and BodyPump. She is a mother of two and her favorite hobby is watching movies with her family. She was Virginia State Gymnastics Champion in 1984; and was competitive in the sport for 10 years. Her newest adventure is performing in sprint triathlons.

  • Blanca Cerezco, PT

    Blanca received her degree in Physical Therapy from Emilio Aguinaldo University in the Philippines. She has been practicing physical therapy in the United States for 15 years and is fluent in Tagalog. Blanca specializes in the spine and extremities. Blanca is currently treating patients at our Woodbridge Clinic.

  • Stephanie Fitzsimmons PT, DPT

    Stephanie is a 2013 graduate of Chatham University's Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Stephanie joined the Alliance team at the Woodbridge clinic in 2014. Her clinical experience includes inpatient, outpatient, and skilled nursing facilities. She enjoys problem solving, puzzles, and biomechanics. These interests were the reason she fell in love physical therapy. Her passion is physical therapy application for neurological conditions and continuing education to continue to provide evidence based practice. In her free time she enjoys cooking, building, reading, crafting, and spending time outdoors. Stephanie and her family moved to Virginia from Pennsylvania in 2013 and are proud new homeowners.

  • RaeLynn McMechan PT

    RaeLynn McMechan is originally from a small town in Illinios. She is a 2015 graduate from Lake Land College's PTA program. Her clinical experience includes inpatient rehab, acute care, and outpatient rehab. In her free time, RaeLynn enjoys reading, crafting, traveling, spending time with friends and family, and watching old classic movies along with foreign films and shows.

  • Lillian Mills, LPTA

    Lillian Mills, PTA works as a therapist on our Woodbridge, VA clinic. She has experience with both outpatient orthopedic and home health physical therapy. Having grown up as the daughter of an orthopedic surgeon, Ms. Mills states that being exposed to this sort of environment greatly influenced her decision to become a therapist.

  • Nathaniel Mitchell, L.P.T.A.

    Nathaniel graduated from Northern Virginia Community College in May 2010 with a degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant. He obtained licensure from the Board of Physical Therapy in the Commonwealth of Virginia in September 2010 after successfully passing the National Physical Therapy Examination. Nathaniel has gained knowledge in treating various orthopedic injuries and has experience treating back, neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist, knee, ankle, and foot pathologies. Nathaniel has played recreational football since he was 7 years old and is a fan of all professional sports. He also enjoys traveling and experiencing new cultures.

  • Francis Ramirez, PT, DPT, MS, CPT

    Dr. Ramirez received his undergraduate education from the George Washington University, where he graduated as the top student and undergraduate speaker for the commencement ceremonies of the School of Public Health and Health Services. He received both his Master of Science and Doctor of Physical Therapy degrees at the Medical College of Virginia-VCU; where he had served as the Director of Personal Training in the Medical Campus under Dr. Eric West. He has had extensive training in sports medicine and orthopedics-having worked with many youth, amateur, and professional athletes; dancers and ballerinas; and weekend warriors here and abroad. He has also worked with amputee patients; Industrial Rehabilitation clients; and is proficient with the evaluation for and fabrication of custom-made foot orthoses. He is a Board Certified Direct Access Provider; and is licensed to practice in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia.

    Dr. Ramirez is currently an Advanced-level practitioner of John F. Barnes’ Myofascial Release technique, which he has been practicing for over 6 years. He has also taken Advanced Manipulative Therapy courses with famed Brasilian chiropractor Dr. Ines Nakashima; and has apprenticed with various expert-level osteopathic-trained manual therapists. He has had very good results in resolving patients’ symptoms. Dr. Ramirez utilizes a multi-faceted treatment approach incorporating manual therapies, postural assessment, and innovative exercise protocols.

    Dr. Ramirez is an avid fan of CR Flamengo, FC Barcelona, Everton FC, and DC United; and enjoys watching the “beautiful game.” He has also trained in Brasilian jiu-jitsu and capoeira, having seen the best in both arts when he travelled to Brasil.

  • Renee Trombley, PT, DPT

    Dr. Trombley graduated from the Medical College of Virginia with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. She completed her undergraduate work at Longwood University; where she majored in Biology. At Longwood, Dr. Trombley was a member of BBB, the Biological Honor Society. She was also a teaching assistant for Microbiology during her junior and senior years. After graduation from PT school, she moved to Tampa, FL; and after working for a year at Florida Orthopedic Institute, she became an instructor and clinical physical therapist at the University of South Florida School of Physical Therapy. She was jointly appointed in Physical Therapy and Pediatrics. She co-instructed wound care; and participated in a multi-disciplinary Healthy Weight clinic for juveniles and young adults; for exercise prescription and progression. She returned to Virginia in 2010. She is a Board Certified Direct Access Provider. She is also the CCCE for all Alliance clinics.</p><p>Renee is interested in all orthopedic conditions; especially sports medicine. She has treated various diagnoses from TMJ disorders, pre-operative exercise prescription, and postoperative care. She is currently practicing and taking courses in Myofascial Release from John Barnes, PT. </p><p>Renee enjoys various sports and activities from running, tennis, golf, yoga and has recently switched from skiing to snowboarding, as well as trying indoor rock climbing. She spends most of her time with her dog Pogi, and watching hockey: Tampa Bay Lightning.

  • Alexander Welch PT, DPT

    Alex graduated from Gannon University in Erie Pennsylvania with his Bachelor’s degree in Sports and Exercise Science in 2014 and his Doctorate degree of Physical Therapy in 2016. He grew up in the small Pennsylvania town of DuBois and relocated to the Woodbridge area in 2016. He has had clinical experience in a number of settings including skilled nursing homes, acute care hospitals, and outpatient orthopedic clinics. In his spare time, Alex is an avid runner, enjoys reading and watching films, and is a supporter of Penn State football, Portland Timbers FC, and the Baltimore Orioles.



Woodbridge / Opitz Blvd Office

  • Claude Bernard, OTR/L

    Claude Bernard graduated from Howard University with a Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy in 2013. Prior to earning his masters, he received an Athletic Training degree at Methodist University in 2011. He has gained valuable clinical experience in a variety of settings which include inpatient rehab, acute care, SNIF, mental health hospital, and sports injuries. Upon completion of OT school, he worked alongside his mentor/doctor’s hand therapy clinic where he developed skills in hand therapy, lymphedema therapy, and pediatric therapy. Working at the hand therapy clinic he has developed the skill to combine comprehensive knowledge of the structure of the upper limb with function and activity using specialized skills in assessment, planning and treatment. His passion has always been with the intricate knowledge and specialization of hand therapy. In his free time, Claude enjoys playing basketball, fitness, traveling, and spending time with family.

  • Kimberly Hartman, OTR/L, Certified Hand Therapist

    Kim is a Certified Hand Therapist and Occupational Therapist specializing in Hand Therapy since 1995. In 1995, she received a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from Towson University in Towson, MD. She began her career in an acute care hospital where she worked in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. Here she received a broad perspective of Occupational Therapy, to include: acute trauma, post-surgical care, stroke rehab, pediatric developmental delays, wound care, lymphedema management and hand therapy. Later, she went on to attend one of the premiere schools in the nation for Hand Therapy, Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA., where she received a post-graduate level certificate in Hand and Upper Quarter Rehabilitation. She earned the prestigious Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) certification in 2005.



    Kim has assisted with implementing and developing Hand Therapy programs in various outpatient therapy practices in Northern Virginia. She has extensive upper extremity experience with treating both children and adults with complex hand injuries. Currently, she works directly with Hand Surgeons locally that specialize in orthopedic upper extremity injuries of the upper arm, elbow, forearm, wrist, and hand. Kim is an active member of the American Society of Hand Therapists and also has been trained in and is a provider of the Graston technique. Kim is a lifelong learner and she attends continuing education courses regularly so that she can provide the highest level of services to the patient’s she treats. She excels at the challenge of working with a variety of complex injuries and diagnoses and is extremely skilled in splinting and modalities. In her free time, Kim enjoys spending time with her husband and son, traveling, reading and outdoor activities.

  • Erin M. Vanko, OTR/L

    Erin Vanko, graduated from the Sage Colleges in Troy NY with a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy in 2015. Erin’s clinical experiences include: outpatient pediatrics and two clinical rotations working alongside certified hand therapist’s developing comprehensive knowledge and skills of the upper extremity. When not treating in the clinic, Erin enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, travelling, and relaxing with a good book.



Midlothian / Richmond Area Office

  • Holly Jacobsen, LPTA

    Holly graduated in 2007 with a bachelor degree in Clinical Exercise Science from Virginia Commonwealth University. After a few years’ experience as a physical therapy tech, she went on to earn her physical therapist assistant degree in 2013 at Jefferson College of Health Sciences in Roanoke, Virginia. Her clinical experience includes outpatient orthopedics/aquatic therapy, skilled nursing care, and work-site based health and wellness. Holly obtained her certification in Kinesio taping. An avid sports enthusiast, Holly enjoys playing on her coed softball team, participating in group fitness classes, and rooting for the VCU Rams. She is currently treating patients in our Colonial Heights and Midlothian clinics.

  • Nathan S. Michels, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS

    Nate works for Alliance Physical Therapy in our Richmond locations. He is the clinic director of the Midlothian office and spends time in both Colonial Heights and Willow Lawn. He is a 2010 graduate of James Madison University with a Bachelors Degree in Health Sciences with a Health Studies concentration. Nate earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from Old Dominion University in 2013 where he was inducted into the Alpha Eta National Honor Society for Allied Health by his faculty. After graduation Nate became a traveling physical therapist specializing in orthopaedics and gaining experience working in 7 different states across the country. In early 2015 he was recognized as a board certified specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy. His clinical interests include work hardening, car accident injuries, functional movement screening, enhancing optimal sports performance, and comprehensive rehabilitation approaches breaking down integrated biomechanics. Nate prides himself in going above and beyond for each patient and individualizing their program. By individualizing the programs and staying away from cookie cutter approaches it promotes long term success by teaching the tools to maintain rehab progress once discharged. His overall goal is to get each patient back to doing what they love, whether that is picking up their grandchildren, driving to the grocery store, walking on the beach during the next family vacation, hiking the Shenandoah trails, returning to playing a round of golf, or maximizing an athlete’s performances to the next level.
